A 43-year-old man reported missing by a friend who thought he was swimming in Lake Hodges was found safe at home Saturday nigth, a San Diego lifeguard lieutenant said.
The man was reported missing at 8:40 p.m. Saturday on the stretch of Lake Hodges at Rancho and Lake drives, said San Diego lifeguard Lt. John Sandmeyer.
“The reporting party then left the scene,” Sandmeyer said. There was enough information to kick off a search of the area by the San Diego Fire Department helicopter, sheriff’s deputies, San Diego police officers and San Diego and Encinitas lifeguards.
During the search, deputies found a person who claimed to have seen a man leave the area who fit the description of the missing man, he said.
Sheriff’s deputies found the missing 43-year-old man at his home at about 10:50 p.m., Sandmeyer said.
The man reported missing and the man who made the report were with a group of people at Lake Hodges, he said. “These people had been drinking and left the area.”
The man who reported the missing person has not been located, Sandmeyer said.
