A two-alarm fire tore through an apartment building near Otay Valley Regional Park on Monday afternoon, displacing more than a half-dozen people.

The non-injury blaze in the 300 block of Zenith Street in Chula Vista erupted about 3:15 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Jim Garcia said.

It took Chula Vista Fire Department crews about 20 minutes to subdue the flames, which caused heavy damage to two downstairs units and one on the second floor of the two-story building.

The American Red Cross was called in to help eight to 10 residents arrange for interim lodging, Garcia said.
