A missing 73-year-old man was found dead in a back- country area near Golden Acorn Casino, authorities reported Monday.
The body of David Marquez of El Cajon was discovered Sunday morning about two miles from his vehicle, which had been parked alongside Interstate 8 near Crestwood Road in Campo, according to El Cajon Police.
“It appears that Marquez may have run out of gas and left his vehicle on foot with the hope of finding assistance,” Lt. Walt Miller said. “There are no signs of foul play involved.”
Marquez’s family had last seen him a week earlier. They reported him missing Thursday.
The former senior volunteer with the El Cajon Police Department had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and was diabetic, Miller said.
