The San Diego Sheriff’s Department said Rachel Anne Morrison was walking with a friend across Camino Del Mar at Coast Boulevard within a crosswalk at 10:15 p.m. when a vehicle ran the stop sign. Her friend was able to get out of the way, but Morrison was struck.

Morrison was transported by paramedics to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla where she was pronounced dead.

Based on evidence left at the scene, sheriff’s deputies, with the assistance of the San Diego police, located the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex in La Jolla. The registered owner of the vehicle, 41 year-old Christopher Stockmeyer, was arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

Stockmeyer was booked into Vista Detention Facility. The collision is under investigation by the Encinitas Sheriff’s Station. Anyone with information about this case can call the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200.
