A San Diego resident who stabbed an 18-year-old man in the stomach during a fight at a house party in Poway was sentenced Tuesday to four years in state prison.

Kueth Tut Deng, 19, pleaded guilty to felony assault in connection with the stabbing, according to jail records.

Deng was arrested the morning after the Oct. 26 brawl on Lingre Avenue near Gaelyn Court.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a group of unwanted guests crashed the party and a fight broke out. The victim, identified as Melvin Tarter, was stabbed three times in the side and once in the arm.

Deng was charged with attempted murder before he pleaded guilty to the lesser assault charge.
