Veteran media personality Dave Mason, with more than 50 years of experience in radio and TV, has joined KFMB 100.7-FM, according to Mike Vasquez, director of programming.
Mason, who has worked in San Diego the past 20 years, will fill-in on weekends starting this month and at other times as needed, the station said. He is scheduled for the 9 a.m.-to-2 p.m. time slots on Aug. 24 and 31.
“Our team is made up of radio fanatics, which makes Dave an ideal fit,” said Vasquez. “His level of experience and passion will be a tremendous addition to our team and we’re eager to get him on-the-air.”
Mason said, “Joining 100.7 San Diego is a thrill for me in sharing some of the best music ever and doing what I love to do, which is have fun on the radio. It’s great to be part of a station that super-serves the musical tastes of San Diego.”
Mason has worked in radio since junior high school in Rochester, N.Y. His radio travels have taken him to stations in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Nashville and Cincinnati. He’s also known as an on-camera pledge host for PBS stations in Southern California and a supporter of the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
Starting in 2008 in San Diego, he joined XPRS 105.7-FM, which was known as “The Walrus” at the time. In 2013, he left San Diego to spend a year in Los Angeles as assistant program director at CBS Radio’s K-EARTH 101, the market’s top-rated station. In October 2014, he returned to 105.7, then called “MAX FM,” as midday host and assistant program director. In 2016, he left 105.7-FM and spent two years playing adult contemporary hits at KXSN-FM, Sunny 98.1.
MAX-FM operated by Broadcast Company of the Americas, went off the air in December 2018. MAX-FM was one of three BCA stations that used Mexico-based transmitters. BCA ceased business operations in April of this year.
