San Diego-based Broadcast Company of the Americas has promoted Jenny Rose Gonzalez from local sales manager to general sales manager.

Gonzalez first joined BCA in 2006, left in 2012 to work at the San Diego Union-Tribune as a sales manager and digital team leader, and then returned to BCA 2014.

BCA operates three radio stations in San Diego, including XPRS-AM 1090 The Mighty 1090, XPRS-FM 105.7 MAX-FM and XEPE-AM ESPN 1700. BCA holds the radio broadcast rights for the San Diego Gulls hockey team and serves as the flagship station for University of San Diego football and basketball.

Southwest Strategies Adds Jack Straw, Former Faulconer Aide

Public affairs firm Southwest Strategies has named Jack Straw as a senior manager of public affairs.

Previously Straw spent seven years with the city of San Diego, where he most recently served as director of land use and economic development policy to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. In this role, Straw ensured that mayoral priorities were implemented within the city’s Planning, Development Services and Economic Development departments.

Straw also oversaw implementation of the city’s climate action plan and was helped develop and shepherd new housing policies to bipartisan wins. He began his career working on political campaigns for both candidates and issues in San Diego and Orange counties.

“Jack’s extensive knowledge of public policy and land development will be an asset to our team,” said Chris Wahl, president of Southwest Strategies. “His experience will strengthen the first-hand knowledge we have of our clients industries. I am confident Jack will help us to continue to provide our clients with the superior service they expect.”

Chris Patyk Adds Program Director Duties at Entercom

Chris Patyk, program director for KEGY Energy 97.3-FM, has added program director duties for KBZT 94.9-FM, announced Kevin Callahan, operations manager for Entercom San Diego. Patyk has been in the San Diego market since 2012. He previously worked in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Portland. In 2015, he took over programming duties for KYXY 96.5-FM, a local station previously owned by CBS Radio.

“It was a no brainer to elevate Chris Patyk to this role based on his experience,” said Callahan.

“I’m thrilled, excited and about every other adjective you can think of to be part of this amazing Entercom alternative team that loves radio and the music,” said Patyk.

Recently, two local CBS Radio stations, KYXY and KEGY, became part of Entercom San Diego, following the takeover of CBS Radio by Entercom. The company now operates five stations in San Diego, including KYXY, KEGY, KBZT, KSON 103.7-FM and KXSN Sunny 98.1-FM.

Philadelphia-based Entercom is now considered the nation’s largest creator of live, original, local audio content with a nationwide footprint of 235 stations and weekly audience of more than 100 million people.

San Diego AMA Program on Neuroscience and Marketing

The American Marketing Association San Diego chapter will host “What Are Your Customers Thinking: The Connection Between Science and Marketing” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, at the University of San Diego’s Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. Speaking will be Pranav Yadav, CEO of the Neuro-Insight market research firm. The moderator will be Kirsty Nunez of Q2-Insights. The local AMA chapter’s Search Special Interest Group is organizing the event.

Topics discussed will include how advances in neuroscience and behavioral economics allow us access to what’s happening in the minds of those we most want to reach. Neuro-Insight is a global neuro consultancy that uses brain-imaging technology to measure the brain’s response to communications, connecting the link between brain activity and consumer behavior.

Yadav has been listed on Forbes’ Top 30 Under 30 for Marketing. AMA officials said, “By using granular measurements of audience brain response when exposed to media and advertising, a new echelon of insights is now within our grasp.” More information about the event is available online.
