The California Craft Brewers Association said Thursday there are now more than 700 craft breweries in operation across the Golden State.
The new count was released in advance of the association’s annual summit in Sacramento scheduled for September.
“California continues to lead the nation’s craft beer movement and the summit showcases the wild success of a community united over a common passion: craft beer,” said Tom McCormick, executive director of the nonprofit association.
San Diego accounts for the largest number of craft breweries of any city or county, with over 100 now in operation, according to the San Diego Brewers Guild.
The annual craft beer summit is the largest craft beer event of its kind. The state association was formed in 1989 and is the oldest state craft brewers’ trade association in the country.
