San Diego-based Jack in the Box promised in a Super Bowl ad to give away one million hamburgers to encourage people to try the fast food chain’s upgraded menu.

The ad aired Sunday showed Jack as George Washington crossing the Delaware River with ammunition in the form of new Double Jack cheeseburgers.

“We conducted several rounds of research over the last year to discover what guests love most about their burgers,” said Iwona Alter, vice President of product marketing & innovation. “With this input, we believe we have found the winning combination of ingredients, as guests overwhelmingly prefer the taste of our new burgers.”

The company is upgrading 29 menu items, including burgers, chicken sandwiches and certain breakfast items, but the Double Jack is the big addition.

“More than a double cheeseburger, this is Jack’s testament to making every burger better,” the company said.

To receive a free burger, guests must visit jackinthebox.com to sign up and get a coupon redeemable for a free Double Jack or Jumbo Jack burger. Once registered, guests will receive their coupon via text or email.

Guests have a week to redeem their burger, or until one million burgers have been claimed. No purchase is necessary but there is a limit one per customer.
