
Vermont-based Ben & Jerry’s chose sunny San Diego to kick off a 12-city tour to promote climate justice — and show off some new flavors as well.
Two employees driving a Tesla that is specially equipped with freezers are visiting local business and institutions that tweet them with environmental ideas.
“We try to visit like minded places,” said Dan Bookmiller, who along with Jana Steele dropped into the Co-Merge Workplace in downtown San Diego on Wednesday
The “Save Our Swirld Tour” invites San Diegans to “Tweet the Tesla” for free ice cream samples. If the destination has an environmental theme or success, the Tesla may stop.
Ben & Jerry’s, which has championed social and environmental causes, has teamed with Avaaz — an international grassroots organizing group — to spread awareness of climate change and encourage customers to get involved with the global climate movement.
The company is urging world leaders to work towards a goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2050.
