SAN DIEGO – Guitarist Dave Gleason stops in at Beaumont’s on Sept. 19. For fans of country, blues, and early rock ‘n’ roll, it doesn’t get much better than Gleason and his trio, with songs by the likes of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens joining Gleason’s like-minded originals.

Blessed with a plaintive voice that perfectly matches his tunes, where Gleason really shines is in his lead guitar work. He makes it all seem effortless, but Gleason’s sense of melody and dazzling fretwork is second to none. If you like the sounds of pre-1980s vintage country tunes and some of the finest musicianship in town, Gleason and his bandmates will seriously impress you.

Dave Gleason: Friday, Sept. 19 at Beaumont’s Eatery, 5662 La Jolla Blvd. 9 p.m. $10.

One of the hottest performers calling San Diego home, Rebecca Jade, performs a free lunchtime show at the La Jolla Community Center on Sept. 19. Jade’s musical style is hard to pin down. Though considered an R&B or jazz vocalist, Jade can sing just about anything and make it sound magical, working on stage and on recordings with the likes of Elton John, Dave Koz, and Sheila E.

Jade is promoting a new single, “Not Me No Way,” but whatever she includes in her set list will have concert goers hanging on every note.

Rebecca Jade: Friday, Sept. 19, at the La Jolla Community Center, 6811 La Jolla Blvd. Noon. Free.

Humphrey’s Backstage Live

Fans of singer Linda Ronstadt will want to hear tribute band, Love is a Rose, who perform at Humphreys Backstage Live on Sept. 19. Singer Andrea McKay does a good job replicating Ronstadt’s powerhouse vocals, with a set list that ranges from her 1960s era hits such as “Different Drum,” through to her 1970s superstar years and classics such as “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved.” Notably, Love is a Rose also includes a few songs from Ronstadt’s early ’70s backing musicians, who later went on to form their own band, The Eagles, making this show a treat for aficionados of classic rock in general.

Love is a Rose: Friday, Sept. 19 at Humphreys Backstage Live, 2241 Shelter Island Drive. 5 p.m. $5.

Music Without Borders

The inaugural concert of the Music Without Borders series, Paris After Dark, takes place at Baker Baum Hall on Sept. 20.

Featuring acclaimed singer Sacha Boutros and renowned trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo, the evening will showcase 100 years of jazz in Paris with selections from Gershwin, Cole Porter, Serge Gainsbourg, and Sidney Bechet among the repertoire.

Boutros has a wonderful voice and sings in English, Spanish, and French, giving her set list possibilities an impressive range. Both jazz fans and Francophiles in general will find much to admire at this concert.

Sacha Boutros: Saturday, Sept. 20 at The Baker Baum Concert Hall at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, 7600 Fay Ave. 7:30 p.m. $28-$98.

The Hives

Swedish garage-rockers, The Hives, perform at The Sound on Sept. 22. Formed in the 1990s, although the band has never scored a U.S. hit, they’ve built a large, fervent following through constant touring and a great stage show.

Currently on the road in support of their seventh album, “The Hives Forever Forever the Hives,” after nearly 30 years, the band’s music remains a fun, riff-driven, adrenaline-charged brand of rock ‘n’ roll. New single, “Enough Is Enough,” captures The Hives’ manic energy well, but this is a group best experienced live.

The Hives: Monday, Sept. 22 at The Sound, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., 8 p.m. $49-$85.

The Psychedelic Furs

British rock combo The Psychedelic Furs returns to San Diego on Sept. 24 for a concert at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay. Best known for a string of 1980s movie soundtrack-related singles, including “Pretty In Pink,” “Love My Way,” and “Heaven,” the band hasn’t been resting on their laurels.

Still led by brothers Richard (vocals) and Tim (bass) Butler, The Psychedelic Furs most recent album, “Made of Rain,” is an excellent addition to the group’s canon, with tunes such as their most recent single, “Wrong Train,” slotting in well with their older sing-along favorites.

Psychedelic Furs: Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay, 2241 Shelter Island Drive. 7 p.m. $98.
