Bodhi Tree Concerts‘ 10th anniversary season includes a Broadway cabaret show and a salute to stage greats Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The season begins at 4 p.m. Sunday with the cabaret performance, via live stream, led by singer Leonard Patton, and backed by pianist Ed Kornhauser, bassist Rob Thorsen and drummer Julien Cantelm.

Patton is a jazz specialist and veteran on the San Diego music scene. Kornhauser is a staff accompanist at Vista’s Unity Way Church, and also performs with the Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio.

Thorsen recently released the album “So in Love” with his wife, vocalist Steph Johnson, and teaches at the Athenaeum in La Jolla, while Cantelm tours extensively.

Admission costs $25 per show or $80 for the full season – which organizers hope will include a return to performing before live audiences.

The rest of the season includes:

  • April 10 – The Anthony Davis Jazz Trio
  • May 22 – Best of Rodgers and Hammerstein
  • Sept. 25 – 10th Anniversary concert

Bodhi Tree also will be part of the free Music en la Calle Festival in City Heights, set for June 26, and host four Christmas shows over two weekends in November.

The vision for Bodhi Tree Concerts, which are performed in La Jolla and throughout San Diego, organizers say, is to “offer music as a path towards enlightenment and understanding,” with a focus on local artists, diverse programming and support for charitable organizations.

Sunday’s show will benefit Feeding San Diego’s COVID-19 response.
