The Birch Aquarium‘s popular “Green Flash” summer concert series for fans 21 and older returns on Wednesday evening with Tommy Castro and the Painkillers.

The legendary blues and soul giant has performed around the world, earning awards and thrilling fans with his intense performances. The opening act is San Diego’s own Joey Harris and The Mentals.

Each of the Wednesday-night concerts in the series of five begins at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until about 9 p.m., giving music fans an opportunity to see the fabled green flash as the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to allow guests to order food and drinks and explore the aquarium before the concert.

The series continues on June 19 with Wild Child , a Los Angeles-based tribute to The Doors. Other acts lined up are Pine Mountain Logs and Venice on July 17,  The Mother Hips on Aug. 14, and 10,000 Maniacs on Sept. 18.

Individual tickets start at $38 and season passes at $175. There are discounts for aquarium members. All concerts are standing room only, but VIP seating is available.
