The Women’s Museum of California in Liberty Station is planning a summer packed with workshops and panels ranging from feminism to health to LGBT rights and even a fundraising jewelry auction.

The current gallery exhibit, “Shoulders to Stand On: Remembering the Chicana Narrative,” runs through July 31 and is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Other events in July include:

Conversations about Feminism and Women’s Issues in Our Refugee Community

Tuesday, July 19 at 6 p.m. 

Marisa Meno from SDSU’s Bread and Roses Center will share an overview of her feminism workshops. Her main focus is to educate the refugee and immigrant women living in the local community. She will discuss how feminism and the roles of women are perceived in modern society. This event is free and light refreshments are included. See more information here.

NOW Meeting: LGBTQIA Support and Advocacy

Wednesday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The National Organization for Women is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the Women’s Museum of California. The meeting will discuss intersectional activism, feminist ideals, societal change, discrimination and gender equality. Find more details on the website.

WOSD Free Film Night: This Changes Everything

Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Women Occupy San Diego (WOSD) are hosting a movie night. This film shows seven portraits of communities on the front lines.  That ranges from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond. Your Health, Wealth and Legacy

Thursday, July 28 at 6 p.m.

There are several speakers at this event to share their unique perspectives on life and help promote healthy lifestyles and better money management. Paula Shaw, a Master Life Transition Coach and Grief Specialist, will be a keynote speaker, along with Ellen Hill, a Registered Representative with Transamerica. Hill has 18 years of experience in helping families manage their finances and will discuss “Money Matters and Not outliving our Income.” The third speaker is Zeleka Amirzada, author of “Thinking Bigger and Dreaming Wilder.” Visit this webpage to RSVP.

Chicana Activists Speak

Friday, July 29 and Sunday, July 31 at 6 p.m.

A panel of Chicana Activists will share their experiences with the Chicano movement in San Diego. This is one of four panels that the Chicana Activist Program will organize with the leadership of the exhibit curating team. RSVP on this webpage.

Women’s Jewelry Association Auction

Saturday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m.

The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) will host a reception and auction. Attendees will enjoy a silent auction, live auction and a raffle to raise money for local and national WJA scholarships. Lots of artists are bringing wearable pieces of art that show a specific women’s influence on a life. The pieces were created in response to the Makers Project Part I. The event is open to the public with a $15 registration fee for non-members. See more details here.

Launch of the San Diego Women’s Film Network Meeting

Tuesday, July 19 at 6 p.m.

The San Diego Women’s Film Network is hosting its first meeting to launch the San Diego Women’s Film Network. Doors will open at 5 p.m. in the ArcLight Cinemas of La Jolla. Two informative panels will discuss local and LA-based film. The discussions will be moderated by Marianne Kushi of NBC 7 and Lisa Remillard of KUSI.
