With 100 percent of precincts reporting, and the third day of counting absentee and provisional ballots complete, Scott Peters took an increasing lead in the race for the 52nd Congressional District, and the two candidates for mayor of Imperial Beach were tied. Here’s a summary of the top races:
Statewide Races — Gov. Jerry Brown easily won an unprecedented fourth term. Democrats won in all other statewide races, and Tom Torlakson was re-elected to the non-partisan schools superintendent post. All of the statewide propositions were approved except 45, 46 and 48, which covered insurance rates, drug testing and malpractice, and Indian gaming.
52nd Congressional District — In one of the most bitterly fought races nationwide, Republican challenger Carl DeMaio is now trailing incumbent Scott Peters by 48.7 percent to 51.3 percent. Peters has extended his lead to 4,771 votes. The next update is expected Monday afternoon.
6th District San Diego City Council — Chris Cate won the race to represent the 6th District on the San Diego City Council, with 54.3 percent of the vote compared to Carol Kim’s 45.7 percent. The post is non-partisan, but Cate is a Republican and Kim a Democrat. Cate’s victory ends the Democrats’ veto-proof super majority on the council.
