San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso was placed on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Friday, with a bone bruise on his right shoulder.

Alonso injured the shoulder while diving for a ball in the team’s 11-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday night.

To take his place on the roster the team called up outfielder Abraham Almonte from Triple-A El Paso.

Alonso currently leads the Padres with a .333 batting average, which is the seventh best in the National League.

Friars manager Bud Black penciled in Wil Myers—the team’s everyday center fielder— to start at first base on Friday against the Arizona

The call-up of Almonte signals that he and Venable will split time in centerfield, while Myers plays first base.

Myers has two appearances at first base in his career, both while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays last season.

The Padres and Diamondbacks square off at 6:40 p.m. Friday with James Shields getting the start against Jeremy Hellickson for Arizona.
