Firefighters tackled a brush fire that started after a car caught fire on the side of state Route 79 near Santa Ysabel Saturday.

California Highway Patrol dispatchers received word of a car fully engulfed in flames on Route 79 near the Santa Ysabel Mission just before 11:20 a.m.

Flames spread to nearby vegetation, and firefighters headed to the scene, according to Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez.

The spread of the fire was stopped at two acres, Sanchez said.

Officers were conducting one-way traffic control in the area while firefighters mopped up the blaze, according to a CHP incident log.
