San Diego firefighters battled three brush fires Saturday evening, including one near Poway that threatened homes.
By 7:45 p.m. crews had the upper hand on all of them, even though the Poway blaze, called the Springhurst Fire, prompted evacuations.
The department posted to X at 6:05 p.m., the firefighters were “currently responding to two vegetation fires in the areas of Poway and Lemon Grove.”
Minutes later, officials said units also were en route to a vegetation fire off state Route 52 and Interstate 15.
The more serious of the blazes was the one in the Sabre Springs and Poway area, according to Watch Duty, a nonprofit fire app. The Springhurst Fire was described as burning in heavy brush and uphill toward homes.
It was first reported at 5:18 p.m. Evacuations were ordered for residents on Cobblestone Creek Road, but by about 6:50 p.m. forward progress of the flames had been halted, the fire department said.
The fire burned three acres.
