A dispute between a motorist and a passenger in his truck came to a head Thursday when the latter tumbled out onto the roadway at a College-area intersection, suffering minor injuries.
The 49-year-old driver and the other man, age 22, were headed east on Mohawk Street with a woman riding between them when an argument erupted for unknown reasons shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.
Reaching a stop sign at 73rd Street, the driver reportedly began using a cane to beat the younger man, who proceeded to fall out of the truck, SDPD Lt. Kevin Mayer said. The motorist then drove away, but returned a short time later.
Medics took the men, who described themselves as friends, to hospitals — the passenger for treatment of scrapes and bruises, and the driver for evaluation of some type of apparent medical condition.
As of mid-afternoon, police were still trying to sort out what prompted the brouhaha and determine whether any type of criminal charge, possibly assault, was warranted, the lieutenant said.
