Two San Diego police officers were arrested Thursday on suspicion of drug crimes, according to San Diego County sheriff’s officials.

Bryce Charpentier, 32, and his wife, Jennifer, 41, were expected to be booked on various charges. They were arrested at 11:30 a.m. in East County ad 4S Ranch Thursday as part of a drug task force operation.

Bryce Charpentier faces counts of sales of a controlled substance, possession, transportation, being under the influence while in possession of a loaded firearm, and conspiracy.

Jennifer Charpentier’s charges are possession of a controlled substance, sales, transportation, and conspiracy.

According to the department, Sheriff Bill Gore briefed San Diego Police Chief Shelly Zimmerman on the case, which had been developing for a few days.

Upon being notified of the arrests, Zimmerman placed both of the suspects on leave.

Bryce Charpentier is a six-year member of the department who works out of the Mid-City Division. Jennifer Charpentier has been with the agency for 18 years and is assigned to the Western Division.

San Diego police have faced controversies this year related to rogue officers, a factor, some believed in the departure of former Chief William Lansdowne. In one of the cases, an officer is accused of groping female suspects.
