San Diegans can test drive nearly 20 of the latest EV models at the free Electric Vehicle Day on Saturday.

Our city is already one of the hottest markets for electric vehicles, with more than 18,000 on the road here.

“Electric vehicles have become a key part of San Diego culture and are important to the future of our region to help reach statewide clean air goals,” said James P. Avery, San Diego Gas & Electric‘s chief development officer. “Anyone who is curious about plug-in vehicles is welcome to join us at Electric Vehicle Day.”

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Liberty Station, 2401 Truxtun Road in Pt. Loma.

  • Nissan LEAF
  • MY15 smart fortwo electric drive
  • Porsche Panamera Plug-in
  • Tesla Model S
  • Toyota Plug-in Prius
  • Volkswagen e-Golf

The first 100 people to test drive an EV and the first 100 EV owners who attend with their vehicle will receive a portable phone charger. Attendees who take an EV for a test drive can enter to win an Apple Watch.

Sponsors include SDG&E, the Center for Sustainable Energy and Cleantech San Diego, and the event is made possible with support from participating exhibitors and local car dealers. SDG&E offers EV drivers a special low electricity rate when they program their cars to charge at night.
