SAN DIEGO – The Peninsula 14U Gold Breakers began the 2025 All-Star season in early June and won four of their five invitational season tournaments.

The team then entered USA Softball championship play in late June and placed as finalists in the South San Diego District Tournament.

The Gold Breakers traveled to Lancaster over the Fourth of July weekend to compete in the state tournament where they beat their rivals Alpine, 9-2, Scripps Ranch, 8-5, and Huntington Beach, 7-3, in the finals – winning the program’s first B Division state championship, the highest division offered in the All-Star program.

The team’s state championship earned them a spot in the USA Softball Western Nationals Tournament, held July 22-27 in Moorpark.

The Gold Breakers made it to Sunday in the tournament before finally losing to Huntington Beach in the semi-finals. The team finished fourth in the Western Nationals, a first for the Peninsula program.

The team’s manager, Cogan Semler, has managed a Peninsula team every season since his daughter, Breakers pitcher Joey Semler, has been in the 6U division.

Many of the team’s players began their softball journey in the 6U and 8U divisions of the Peninsula Youth Softball Association and have played together throughout the years. Many of the players will also continue on next spring with their high school softball programs.

In 2022, the 14U Gold Breakers, led by manager Ray Plummer, clinched a C Division state title, which at the time was the first state title in the program’s history.

The Breakers All-Star program spans divisions 8U to 14U. The 12U Gold Breakers team earned a district finalist title and also competed in Western Nationals in Moorpark, where they finished fifth. The 10U Gold team traveled to Western Nationals in Roseville, where they placed seventh in nationals following a fourth-place finish in the B state tournament.

The Peninsula Youth Softball Association is a nonprofit, USA Softball recreational fastpitch league in San Diego for girls ages 5-15. One of the largest leagues in the county, it attracts girls from central San Diego’s coastal communities, including Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and more.  PYSA is 100% volunteer-run and is dedicated to developing girls in the game of softball and life.

PYSA is accepting player registrations for the fall season. Registration can be found at peninsulasoftball.com/fall. Registration closes on Aug. 8.
