San Diego FC has it’s first official win streak.

The expansion side won its second straight contest, defeating Seattle Sounders FC 3-0 at home at Snapdragon Stadium. And it took less than 90 seconds into the match before SDFC scored to take the lead.

Right back Jeppe Tverskov kicked things off literally and figuratively one minute and 20 seconds into the match by scoring on a left-footed shot from the center of the box into the goal’s lower right zone.

“Getting that early goal was crucial for us in the game,” team captain Tverskov said. He
added that it was by far the earliest he’s ever scored in a match.

“I thought we got off to a great start, which was important for us,” he added. “We opened up
the game in the perfect way.”

His teammate, left wing Chucky Lozano, picked up the assist on the goal. Lozano was one of
the starting 11 this match day after having come off the bench during the previous contest, a 3-2 home victory against LAFC.

He had sat out three games due to a hamstring injury he suffered during San Diego’s first home match on March 1.

San Diego’s second goal came during the 40th minute of the first half when central midfielder Anibal Godoy scored with a left-footed shot from the center of the box to the goal’s bottom right corner. He was assisted by right wing Anders Dreyer, and Lozano was credited with the second assist.

The third and final goal of the contest came seven minutes later, during the second minute of
stoppage time in the first half. Lozano scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner of the goal. He was assisted by right back Jasper Loffelsend, while Tverskov was credited with the second assist.

It was yet another first, this time for Lozano, with his first-ever goal for SDFC.

“I was very, very happy,” he said during the post-match press conference.

The action-packed first half was greeted by wild cheers by SDFC’s Supporters Section, made up of the side’s most vocal and devoted followers.

“The fans here are growing and growing and growing, it’s just been fantastic,” head coach
Mikey Varas said during the press conference.

The match marked the first meeting between the two sides, and was SDFC’s fourth at home on the season. Following the previous weekend’s historic 3-2 first home win, San Diego built on the momentum and extended its unbeaten streak at home.

SDFC now has a record of 4-2-1, and 14 points, good enough for second place in the Western Conference. Sounders FC, which entered the contest ranked 12th out of 15 Western Conference teams, exits San Diego with a record of 1-3-3 and six points.

After playing two consecutive home matches, SDFC now goes on the road for its next two
contests, against the Colorado Rapids April 12 and Charlotte FC April 19. The side’s next home match is against Real Salt Lake April 26.

And when San Diego plays that match, some local fans may recognize a new, yet familiar
face.

Three days ago, San Diego FC announced that it had acquired attacker and San Diego County native Milan Iloski, 25, who grew up in Escondido. He’s on loan from SDFC sister club, FC Nordsjaelland, through July.

Iloski, who wasn’t on San Diego’s active roster for the contest against Seattle, attended
San Pasqual High School and played collegiately at UCLA before beginning his professional career in 2020 with Real Salt Lake.

He’s the third San Diego County native on the SDFC roster: central midfielder Luca de la Torre attended Torrey Pines High School and backup goalkeeper Jacob Jackson went to Rancho Bernardo High.

The acquisition of Illoski is expected to bolster the side’s depth, as San Diego is expected to
be without forward Marcus Ingvartsen for months as he recovers from a lower-body injury.
Winger Emmanuel Boateng, who hasn’t played since March 8, also is dealing with a lower-body injury.

Notes: Among the notable figures in attendance were Los Angeles Chargers safety Tony
Jefferson, a San Diego native; former World Boxing Council interim lightweight titleholder Ryan Garcia, who’s from Victorville and trains in San Diego; and internet-famous up-and-coming rapper Ktlyn, who’s from San Diego, but now resides in the L.A. area.
