After the San Diego State men’s basketball team fell in its first-round matchup against Boise State in the Mountain West tournament, it was a real possibility the 2023 national runner-up Aztecs would be left out of March Madness.

Now that Selection Sunday has passed, Aztec fans can sleep well knowing the team is returning to the dance for the fifth consecutive season.

They are not the only ones dancing in the San Diego area, as the SDSU women’s team also punched its ticket to the tournament Sunday.

Additionally, UC San Diego men’s and women’s basketball teams found themselves in the dance following both winning the Big West conference tournament.

The matchups, along with the schedule, is below:

Men’s

  • Michigan (No. 5 seed) vs. UC San Diego (No. 12 seed) – South Region – Denver, CO
  • San Diego State vs. North Carolina (Both No. 11 seed/First Four game) – South Region – Milwaukee, WI

UC San Diego is safely in the official bracket, while San Diego State will have to win one more game to officially enter the 64-team bracket.

The First Four game between the Aztecs and Tar Heels will feature the 2022 (UNC) and 2023 (SDSU) national runner-ups, and will be played Tuesday at 6:10 p.m. PST in Dayton, OH. The winner will take on Ole Miss in Milwaukee, WI Friday at 1:05 p.m.

The Tritons will take on Michigan Thursday at 7 p.m. PST at Ball Arena in Denver, CO.

Women’s

LSU (No. 3 seed) vs. San Diego State (No. 14 seed) – Spokane Regional 1 – Baton Rouge, LA

UC San Diego vs. Southern (Both No. 16 seed/First Four game) – Spokane Regional 1 – Los Angeles, CA

Like the UC San Diego men’s team, the SDSU women’s team is safely locked into the 64-team bracket. The Aztecs will draw a matchup against the 2023 National Champion LSU Tigers in a No. 3 seed vs. No. 14 seed in Louisiana Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Tritons will have to win one more game in Pauley Pavilion against the SWAC champion Southern Jaguars. That First Four game will be on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The winner of that game will take on No. 1 overall seed UCLA in the same arena on Friday at 7 p.m.
