San Diego FC will be without Hirving “Chucky” Lozano when the club takes on Real Salt Lake on the road Saturday.
The 29-year-old forward is week-to-week after suffering what Head Coach Mikey Varas described as “a minor” leg injury in SDFC’s first home match last week.
“It will look a little bit different with a different front three,” he acknowledged at this week’s media briefing, though he said the club still was deciding who will step in for Lozano against RSL.
Not that it will be easy replacing him.
“He just brings an aggressiveness to attack the opponent’s backline,” Varas said. “No defender likes to turn and run towards their own goal and he always presents that threat, but then he’s also good receiving the ball in-between to combine or to go at people one (on) one. He’s just an all-around threat.”
SDFC won its debut outing last month in Los Angeles, then played St. Louis City FC to a draw in its first home game last weekend. San Diego FC is the first expansion club to not concede a goal in its first two matches since the Seattle Sounders in 2009.
RSL (1-0-1) beat Seattle 2-0 in its last match.
