San Diego State men’s golfer Justin Hastings came out on top at the 2025 Latin American Amateur Championship Saturday after he shot 16 under in his four rounds.

The senior Aztec golfer finished one shot ahead of Peru’s Patrick Sparks. Hastings shot a 71, 65, 64 and 72 in his four total rounds.

Following the win, Hasting received full exemptions into The Amateur Championship, U.S. Amateur Championship and all other USGA Amateur Championships he is eligible for. Hastings was the best of a 108-player field of the top male amateurs in Latin America.

Hastings is tied for the team lead this season through four tournaments in scoring average, rounds below par and even-par rounds. Hastings’ career scoring average (71.48) is the lowest in program history, even ahead of Xander Schauffele’s 71.50 from when he was in school from 2013-15.

The Cayman Islands native is currently the 52nd-ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and 20th in the PGA TOUR University Rankings.

SDSU will start its spring season at the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California.
