A career night for Miles Byrd put San Diego State back in the win column Tuesday with a 75-60 victory over Colorado State at Viejas Arena.
Byrd scored 25 with seven steals, both career highs for the sophomore. He added six rebounds.
“He played a magnificent game at both ends of the floor tonight,” head coach Brian Dutcher told San Diego Sports 760.

BJ Davis added 12 points and the Aztecs (11-4, 4-2 Mountain West) scored 20 off the bench, led by Wayne McKinney III with nine and Pharaoh Compton with eight.
They also corrected a problem that cost them last weekend against New Mexico, grabbing 10 offensive rebounds – one more than what was mandated by the coaching staff or the team would face suicide drills.
“We all were crashing in the lane trying to get to that nine,” Byrd told Sports 760.

They were also ready to shake off the leaden loss at New Mexico.
“Whole new game, whole new week, whole new environment back at home,” Byrd said.
The teams traded leads to open the game, but McKinney hit a three-pointer to put SDSU up 17-16 at 11:28 in the first half. A minute later, Byrd hit the first of his five from long distance on the night and the Aztecs never looked back.
They held a 35-29 lead at the break and when they returned to the court it grew to a 20-point cushion thanks to a three by Davis with 4:23 left on the clock.
They didn’t score, however, for the remainder of the game, and Dutcher acknowledged that he “didn’t think we closed well.”
On the defensive end, they benefitted from 20 Colorado State (11-7, 4-2 MW) turnovers, converting them to 22 points. The Rams managed only eight on 10 Aztec turnovers.
They also held Nique Clifford, among the Mountain West leaders in scoring, in check – the guard scored 11, short of his average entering the game, almost 17. He also had just six rebounds, off from the 10 he normally grabs.
“We made things hard on them,” Dutcher said.
The Aztecs welcome UNLV (9-7, 3-2 MW) at 5 p.m. Saturday. UNLV has a tough assignment first though – hosting No. 22 Utah State on Wednesday.
