The Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation is hosting its first Chula Vista Pickleball Tournament in Downtown Chula Vista on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 12 to 5 p.m.
Dozens of teams are registered to compete in the tournament, which will take over Third Avenue between Davidson and F streets. Two-person teams will compete at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
All proceeds will go to the Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation’s project restoring “The Goose,” a 1916 fire engine. The engine is owned by the Chula Vista Fire Department and is believed to be one of the first fire engines used by the city.
The Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation is a nonprofit that collects, preserves and displays historical photos and artifacts that are a part of the Chula Vista Fire Department’s history beginning in 1921.
Parking lots are located on Landis Avenue, north and south of Davidson Street, and just south of the intersection of Landis Avenue and F Street. Street parking is also available in surrounding areas.
Registration for the tournament is closed, but the public is welcome to attend. Participants and spectators are encouraged to purchase food and beverages from local establishments in the area. For more information on the event, visit the Chula Vista Pickleball Tournament webpage.
