
San Diego State Hall of Famer Shanieka Ricketts has advanced to Saturday’s triple jump finals at the Paris Olympics.
She recorded the second-best mark of the qualification round, leaping 14.47m (47-5.7) on her first attempt to automatically qualify. The qualifying standard was 14.35m.
Representing Jamaica and jumping 14th in flight B, she logged the second longest jump, behind Cuba’s Leyanis Perez Hernandez at 14.68m.
The triple jump finals will take place at 11:30 a.m. PT, streaming live on NBC and Peacock.
Ricketts, who competing at SDSU under her maiden name, Thomas, is looking to improve on her fourth-place finish – one off the podium – at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
She also finished tied for 13th at the 2016 Rio Olympics, her first Olympic Games.
She was a three-time NCAA triple jump champion and a two-time runner-up while at San Diego State from from 2011-14.
