AleSmith Brewing Company celebrates Tony Gwynn Day Saturday at their Miramar brewery with special beer releases.

Two commemorative beers, in 16 ounce, four-packs, will feature the latest local Gwynn murals – painted by Ground Floor Murals – depicting iconic moments in his illustrious career.

The brewery’s free celebration, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., includes tastes of the commemorative beers on tap, live music, food trucks and chances to meet the mural artists and explore the Tony Gwynn Museum within the AleSmith Tasting Room. RSVP online to attend.

AleSmith is closely associated with the Padres Hall of Famer because of a lasting tribute.

In 2014, AleSmith Brewing collaborated with Gwynn to brew .394 Pale Ale, named after the batting average he recorded in 1994 while pursuing one of baseball’s most fabled accomplishments – finishing a season with a .400 average. Alas, the baseball strike that cut the season short ended Gwynn’s chance to achieve the milestone.

The pale ale remains a staple on tap and in packages throughout San Diego County.

Gwynn, known as “Mr. Padre,” is hailed as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. His career included 15 All-Star selections, eight National League batting titles, five Gold Glove Awards and his 2007 induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The murals featured on AleSmith’s special Gwynn releases were commissioned to mark the 25th anniversary of his 3000th hit.

Ground Floor conducted a social media contest asking participants to share why their location would be the perfect spot for a Mr. Padre mural. Due to the strong response, two winners were selected instead of one.

The new Gwynn murals can be found at Mandarin House in La Jolla and Bottle Rocket in downtown San Diego.
