A man was struck and killed by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train in Bay Park early Saturday while walking on the tracks.

Authorities were summoned an area near McGraw Street and Morena Boulevard after the 2 a.m. incident, according to OnScene.TV.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. San Diego police and fire crews also responded.

The tracks were shut down temporarily following the incident. According to the @PacSurfliners account on X, the disruption forced some cancellations until the closure, which affected all rail services between San Diego and Los Angeles, was set to be lifted at 8 a.m.

It is not known why the man was on the tracks. The train, heading north, stretched over a mile leading freight cars carrying new vehicles.
