UC San Diego pitching duo Izaak Martinez and Ryan Forcucci both have earned national recognition for their performances midway through the season.
Martinez, named to D1Baseball’s Midseason All-America First Team, was one of eight pitchers on the list. He also was one of only two relievers and one of three athletes from mid-major conferences to receive the honor.
The senior currently leadd the nation with a 0.56 earned run average over 32.1 innings of work out of the bullpen.
The redshirt lefty has allowed three runs (two earned), 12 hits and six walks, while collecting 38 strikeouts, which ranks second on the team and 12th in the Big West. Opponents are currently hitting .113 against him, which ranks first in the conference. He leads the Big West with six saves and has a 2-1 record in 13 appearances.
Martinez and Forcucci were also tabbed on Perfect Game’s Midseason All-America list, with both earning third team honors.
Forcucci has a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings of work, collecting 37 strikeouts while allowing six walks and 14 hits. The junior right-hander has a 2-1 record, allowing nine runs (six earned) and holding opponents to a .159 batting average.
In D1Baseball’s midseason MLB Draft rankings, Forcucci has moved up to 28th among the top 100 college prospects in the NCAA.
Four Tritons were ranked in D1Baseball’s Midseason Player Position Rankings, highlighted by Martinez at No. 4 for relief pitchers. Forcucci at No. 13 in the top 150 starting pitchers, Matt Halbach at No. 28 in the top 50 third basemen and Anthony Eyanson at No. 45 in starting pitchers.
