Major League Rugby‘s 2024 championship will be decided at Snapdragon Stadium this summer, officials said Thursday.
The Quest for the Shield will culminate at Snapdragon, home to the San Diego Legion, at 4 p.m. Aug. 4 featuring the winners from the East and West conferences.
“After a grueling 18-week regular season, each conference will seed its top four teams in a single-elimination tournament beginning on July 20 with the winners squaring off for the revered MLR Shield,” a statement from the league read.
Last season, the New England Free Jacks defeated the Legion 25-24 in the championship matchup in Chicago.
In addition to the Legion, Snapdragon is home to San Diego Wave FC and the San Diego State football program.
Snapdragon has played host to several marquee sporting events and teams in the past year, including the women’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, Wrexham AFC v. Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund. Another high-profile rugby match is set for July.
San Diego hosted the title game once before, in 2019 at Torero Stadium, the Legion’s former home. The team fell to Seattle 26-23.
