AleSmith Brewing Company invites the public to celebrate Tony Gwynn Day Saturday at the Miramar brewery from 2-6 p.m., followed by a Padres-Dodgers watch party.
The brewery will release two commemorative beers in 16oz 4-pack cans — with artwork designed by Ground Floor Murals — honoring Gwynn’s milestone 2000th and 3000th career hits in 1993 and 1999.
Alesmith and “Mr. Padre” himself collaborated on the .394 Pale Ale in 2014, named after his batting average in 1994. It has become one of the most ubiquitous craft beers in the region.
Gwynn played his entire 20-year career with the Padres, earning 15 All- Star selections, eight National League batting titles, five Gold Glove Awards and induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He died of salivary gland cancer in June 2014.
This is Alesmith’s second year honoring the life and career of Gwynn, and will feature live art exhibits, DJs, raffle prizes and food trucks on-site throughout the day.
Following the festivities, the Miramar taproom will feature a Padres vs. Dodgers Watch Party at 5:40 p.m., complete with drink specials available to support the home team.
Alesmith was founded in 1995 and occupies a 109,942-square-foot facility.
