El Cajon native Jimmie Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus will enter the NASCAR Hall of Fame together next January as part of a three-member class, according to a social media post from the seven-time Cup Series champion Wednesday.

Johnson and Knaus were paired together in 2002 on a fourth Hendrick team and are considered one of the most dominant teams in NASCAR history — winning 81 races over 19 seasons.

“We re-wrote the record books together, so it’s only fitting we are inducted together,” Johnson wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Donnie Allison rounded out the group of three Hall of Fame inductees and Janet Guthrie earned the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR, USA Today reported.

The class of 2024 was determined through votes cast between the voting panel, industry leaders, a nationwide fan vote and the NASCAR Cup Series champion, Joey Logano.

Johnson, who graduated from Granite Hills High School, is tied with Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty for the most NASCAR Cup Series championships and held the record for consecutive titles. He is the co-owner of NASCAR team Legacy Motor Club.
