It’s been a busy weekend at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship, as action shifted after Wednesday’s opener to San Diego State and the University of San Diego.

The U.S. Men’s National Team logged two wins, in a comeback over the Haudenosaunee, 9-7 Saturday, and Australia, 12-3 Friday. The team played both games at USD’s Torero Stadium, where 6,000 fans packed the stands Saturday.

The U.S. is 3-0 in the tournament – they opened the championships with a 7-5 win over Canada at Snapdragon Stadium – and will play the 0-2 English team at 4 p.m. Sunday on the fifth day of pool play.

Ireland – which needed double overtime to put Latvia away – Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Japan each also improved to 3-0.

Tournament-wide by the end of the weekend, 36 total matches will have taken place at both SDSU and USD as San Diego welcomes the lacrosse championships for the first time.

Playoff rounds begin Tuesday and continue through Thursday’s semi-finals. The championship is set for July 1. Play returns to Snapdragon for the semis and title game.

Brennan O’Neill has been a standout for the U.S., scoring three goals in his senior team debut against Canada. Kieran McArdle led the team with five points – three goals and two assists – in Saturday’s win.
