San Diego State, seeded eighth in the NCAA Tournament’s Midwest Region, will face Creighton on Thursday in the opening round.

The Aztecs, making their second straight tournament appearance, play the ninth seed, who have a 22-11 record, in Fort Worth, Texas at approximately 4:30 p.m. Thursday in a game to air on TruTV.

In addition, March Madness will come to San Diego. Viejas Arena plays host to games Friday and Sunday, including the South Region’s No. 1 seed Arizona, which faces Wright State or Bryant Friday.

Other contests set for Viejas include No. 8 Seton Hall vs. TCU and No. 3 Texas Tech vs. No. 14 Montana St.

SDSU appeared in the tournament as a No. 6 seed last year, but fell to No. 11 Syracuse in the first round.

Under retired coach Steve Fisher, they appeared in the tournament six years straight from 2010-15. In 2011 and 2014 they made it to the Sweet 16.

Aside from Arizona, the tournament’s top seeds are Gonzaga, the overall No. 1, which will play in the West regional, Kansas in the Midwest and Baylor in the East.

Outside of San Diego and Fort Worth, other regional action will take place in Portland, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Greenville, S.C.

The Mountain West conference has three other teams in the tournament, two of which play Thursday.

Colorado St., the south region’s sixth seed, meets No. 11 Michigan. Boise State, an eighth seed in the West region, will play No. 9 Memphis. The Broncos beat the Aztecs for the MW tournament crown Saturday.

Wyoming must meet Indiana in a play-in game Tuesday in order to proceed in the tourney. The winner of that contest faces Saint Mary’s Thursday.

The NCAA Final Four is set for April 2 in New Orleans, with the championship game to follow on April 4.
