
The field for the Farmers Insurance Open, 10 days away, includes local favorite Phil Mickelson, along with nine other golfers who have captured major championships in the past five years.
Mickelson, who won the 2021 PGA Championship, will be joined at Torrey Pines Golf Course by:
- Hideki Matsuyama – 2021 Masters
- Jon Rahm – 2021 U.S. Open
- Dustin Johnson – 2020 Masters
- Brooks Koepka – 2018-19 PGA Championships, along with 2017-18 U.S. Opens
- Gary Woodland – 2019 U.S. Open
- Francesco Molinari – 2018 British Open
- Patrick Reed – 2018 Masters
- Jordan Spieth – 2017 British Open
- Justin Thomas – 2017 PGA Championship
In addition, the last eight winners of the Farmers Open will compete, including 2021 champion Reed.
Other locals in the field, along with Mickelson, include 2020 Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele, out of San Diego State, who finished second at the Farmers Open last year. Joining them will be:
- Rickie Fowler – Murrieta Valley High
- Charley Hoffman – Poway High School
- Pat Perez – Torrey Pines High School
- J.J. Spaun – San Diego State
The field will be finalized Friday. The four-day tournament opens Jan. 26, with play set to air on CBS and the Golf Channel.
