Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth led the charge Sunday as the Padres salvaged the final game of their three-game series against the Giants with a 11-1 laugher.
Tatis and Cronenworth each posted two hits and two RBIs, while hitting two-run home runs in the 2nd inning.
The Padre second baseman drew first blood with a shot to right off Giants starter Johnny Cueto after a Wil Myers single.
Tatis came up with two out and Victor Caratini on second following a double. He launched a 1-1 pitch, sending it 454 feet before it landed in the center field seats.
Trent Grisham also knocked in two with a triple in the 8th inning, when the Padres broke the game open with four more runs.
Chris Paddack, back from the injured list, went three innings, giving up four hits and no runs while striking out four.
Manager Jayce Tingler called Paddack’s work “outstanding” adding, “he was in control most of the day.”
The team left the Bay Area one and a half games behind the first-place Giants in the National League West.
They dropped the opener 5-4, with Keone Kela taking the loss, and the second game, 7-1, with Joe Musgrove on the losing end. Ryan Weathers got the win Sunday.
Kela lost more than the game as he was forced to return to the IL less than a week after completing a stint on the list. He experienced right forearm tightness Friday.
The Friars continue their road trip at 5:40 p.m. Monday when they start a three-game series against last-place Colorado. Dinelson Lamet faces Antonio Senzatela.
But rain – perhaps even snow – could be a factor. It’s forecasted for Monday and Tuesday with temperatures expected to be in the mid 40s.
