The UC San Diego track and field program earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team honors for the 2019 outdoor season, the association announced.

The UC San Diego women’s team posted a combined GPA of 3.17. The men’s team had a GPA of 3.03. A total of 209 programs where recognized by the association for their academic achievements, including 130 women’s programs and 79 men’s programs.

In addition, six Triton athletes received association All-Academic individual accolades.

UC San Diego honorees include freshman Zachary Aanstoots, senior Natalie Caraway, junior Chelsea Challacombe, senior Nick Famolaro, junior Christian Kallenberg and sophomore Evan Shimasaki.

To qualify for the All-Academic Award, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25. They also must have reached a qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor season.

The campus had four athletes who earned NCAA All-America accolades in 2019; 11 earned the coaches association All-West Region honors.
