The World Surf League Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro, the world’s largest all-female surf contest, returns to the Oceanside Pier beginning Friday.
More than 100 top pros will compete during the free event.
The competition, the only major all-women’s WSL event in North America, plays a critical role for surfers positioning themselves for the 2020 tour.
“The Super Girl Pro is a great platform to showcase women’s surfing from world champions to the next generation in one weekend,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer of WSL Tours and Competitions.
Surfers set to appear include Bethany Hamilton, three-time world champion Carissa Moore and former Super Girl champions Lakey Peterson, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Malia Manuel, Sage Erickson and Coco Ho.
”Everyone is so excited about this event,” said two-time champion Erickson. “It’s so awesome to have a contest like this that focuses entirely on women’s surfing. The festival gets bigger each year, and the crowds are huge.”
In addition to the competition, the event features a Festival Village with 20 live concerts, a female fitness challenge, classes, and a celebrity surf invitational.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sunday. It will be televised on FOX Sports and live streamed.
