Three former athletes have been selected for induction into the UC San Diego Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019, including Leora Juster, the school’s all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball and national champion diver Sheri Takeuchi.
Juster and Takeuchi, along with fellow honoree Mike Nalu of men’s water polo, have collected a combined 12 All-America honors as well as numerous regional and conference accolades. Nalu is an El Cajon native.
Takeuchi won three national titles during her time as a Triton. In addition, Juster and Takeuchi earned Academic All-America recognition.
One of the best to ever take the court for UC San Diego, Juster scored 2,049 career points. The two-time All-American posted at least 30 points 12 times during her career, from 2003-07.
Juster left UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Secondary Education.
Nalu, who played from 1991-93, and in 1995, is the team’s all-time leader in goals and assists. A three-time All-American, he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
A seven-time All-American, Takeuchi won two national championships on the 3-meter board and one on the 1-meter board. Between 1993 and 1996, she twice broke the national record on the 3-meter. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
The trio, the seventh class named to the UC San Diego Athletics Hall of Fame, will be inducted Oct. 20 during a ceremony as part of the campus homecoming celebration.
