The San Diego State Women’s Golf team claimed victory in the desert Wednesday, winning the 2019 Women’s Golf Championship on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

At 40 over par for the tournament, the Aztecs bested second-place finisher Nevada (+41) and third-place UNLV (+47).

In the individual competition, SDSU sophomore Sarah Kjellker tied for second place with San Jose State’s Natasha Andrea Oon. Both were 3 over par on the tournament.

Fresno State’s Brigitte Thibault took the top spot at 1 over par for the tournament.

All nine Mountain West teams participated in the 54-hole championship, and for the second consecutive year the Mountain West had six teams ranked in GolfStat’s Top 100 entering the conference championship, with San Diego State ranked number 43. Only San Jose State was ranked higher at 27.

Prior to 2019, the Aztecs had produced the past two individual champions in Fernanda Escauriza (2017) and Milagros Chaves (2018).

Escauriza, now in her junior year, took fourth this year in the individual competition.
