The Chula Vista Park View All Star avoided elimination Tuesday when it defeated its counterpart in Arizona at the Little League West Regional in San Bernardino.
Park View beat Sunnyside Little League 9-5, despite a rally by Tucson in the fifth inning. At that point, Chula Vista was already ahead, 9-0.
The rally started with Luis Soqui’s triple on a ground ball to right field that allowed Juan Grajeda to score. That was followed by an Emilio Lizarraga grounder that allowed Soqui to score.
The rally ended with Cristobal Lorta’s ground out that allowed Martin Reyes to score. That cut Park View’s lead to 9-3.
Jose Mendoza got things started for Park View at the bottom of the first with a homer on the first pitch of his at bat that brought in Allan Camarillo and Michael Rodriguez. Park View was leading 3-0.
The big inning for Chula Vista was the third, which saw four RBIs. Kenneth Skinner, Makai Corpuz, and Conner Alonzo all contributed to the big inning.
Park View next faces Tri City, a team it beat in the tournament opener, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
