San Diego State football has extended coach Rocky Long’s contract through the 2022 season, the school’s athletic department announced Wednesday.
Long, 68, has led the program for the past seven years and spent two years prior to that as defensive coordinator under Brady Hoke. He has led the Aztecs to a bowl game for each of the seven seasons he led the program.
Long holds the record for the most wins in the Mountain West Conference and was named the conference’s coach of the year for a record three times.
The details of the contract were not disclosed but Long signed a contract extension last year that bumped his pay to $826,304.
With the extension, Long has five years left on his current contract.
Last season, the Aztecs finished 10-3, culminating in a loss to Army in Armed Forces Bowl. It was the third-straight 10-win season for SDSU under Long.
Before coming to the Mesa, Long was the head coach for New Mexico, leading the Lobos to three-straight bowl games — a first in the program’s history. His 64 wins there was the most of any head coach in the Lobos’ history.
