San Diego State University’s rowing head coach was honored Thursday as one of seven inductees to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bill Zack‘s coaching career began at the Coast Guard Academy while he finished up a master’s degree at the Yale School of Management. Throughout his career, he has been involved with USRowing and has led numerous crews to gold medals at national championship meets. He has also been part of 10 U.S. teams in international competitions, including the 1996 Olympic Games and the 1995 Pan-American Games.

“Our 2017 Hall of Fame class here at the Coast Guard Academy will go down in history as one of the finest ever selected,” said Tim Fitzpatrick, the Coast Guard Academy’s director of athletics. When you look at the athletic accomplishments and successes this group achieved during their cadet years, coupled with the outstanding service they rendered — and in several cases are still rendering — to the Coast Guard as officers and leaders of character, it is truly inspiring.”

Zack has been a recipient of four Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Federal Maritime Commission’s Chairman’s Honor Award and the Coast Guard Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Award.

The ceremony took place in Connecticut at the Otto Graham Hall of Athletics Excellence as part of CGA’s Homecoming Weekend.
