Luis Torrens’ first career triple secured a 6-3 win for the San Diego Padres over the New York Mets at Petco Park on Wednesday.

Manuel Margot’s two-run home run in the first inning set the tone Padres and Torrens’ three RBIs in the third inning with the bases loaded sealed the Mets’ fate. It was the second loss for the Mets in eight meetings with the Padres.

Jhoulys Chacin, who had lost five of six decisions against the Mets, was effective in limiting the Mets in 5 1/3 innings — allowing only two runs and four hits. He improved to 4-0 in July.

The opposite was true for the Mets’ pitcher Steven Matz. He was pulled after Margot’s triple. The left-hander hasn’t recorded a win in nearly a month.

Jose Reyes’ score in the sixth inning, bringing the Mets to 6-2 to start the rally but Padres shortstop Allen Cordoba put a stop to that. Rene Rivera hit a sharp grounder up the middle and Corboba made a diving stab to throw out Rivera, quelling the rally.

Wilmer Flores homered off Kirby Yates in the eighth to cut the Mets deficit down to 6-3. Brad Hand got the save by closing down the Mets.

Up next, Luis Perdomo will face off against the Mets for the first time in the closing game of the series. Game time is 6:10 p.m.
