Texas running back D’Onta Foreman received the Doak Walker Award as college football’s top running back Thursday in a field that also included Donnel Pumphrey of San Diego State.

“Truly blessed and honored to be able to experience coming to the College Football Awards,” Pumphrey wrote on his Instagram account.

“Just being around the best of the best for a couple of days has been amazing & I thank God for it all.”

Dalvin Cook of Florida State was the other finalist for the award presented at The Home Depot College Football Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Foreman is the leading rusher in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 2,028 yards, 10 more than Pumphrey, who played two more games. Cook is sixth with 1,620 yards in 11 games, two less than Pumphrey.

Pumphrey is a senior, while Cook and Foreman are both juniors.

The award has been given annually since 1990. It has never been won by a San Diego State player.

The award is named for Doak Walker, the 1948 Heisman Trophy winner while playing for Southern Methodist and a member of the college and pro football halls of fame.
