Preller was initially suspended for 30 days by Major League Baseball after it was determined he withheld medical information when in the trade that sent Drew Pomeranz to the Red Sox last July.
It’s far from the first
When he was with the Texas Rangers, he was suspended 30 days for not following international singing rules. Another notable incident occurred last year as well; after Preller traded Colin Rea to the Marlins as part of a seven-player trade, Rea injured himself and was taken out of his first start with the Fish. Furious with the ‘broken goods’, the Marlins forced the Padres to take Rea back.
Preller will now report to Padres owners Ron Fowler and Peter Seidler. Mike Dee, the former president and CEO that Preller used to report to, was dismissed a little more than a week ago.
