After suffering a brutal loss last week against South Alabama University, San Diego State football regained some momentum this week in their 26-7 win against UNLV.
It’s the first Mountain West Conference action for the Aztecs, a situation that has favored well for them as of late; they’ve won their last 12 games against in-conference opponents, dating back to the 2014 season. Their overall record stands at 4-1.
Runningback Donnel Pumphrey continued his marvel of a season, rushing for 141 yards and one touchdown in addition to 57 receiving yards. Rashad Penny added two touchdowns, one on rushing and receiving apiece. Quarterback Christian Chapman threw for 215 yards and a touchdown on 15-20 passing.
SDSU never had to worry too much; leading the entire time, the closest UNLV came was a touchdown that put the score at 10-7 . That lead was quickly expanded on a field goal and the Pumphrey touchdown, and by the end of the third quarter, the Aztecs had a comfortable 13 point lead.
They continue conference play next Friday when they play at Fresno State.
